End of the line for the Beach Trolley service

It is with great sadness that I have made the difficult decision to discontinue the Beach Trolley service. We will continue to offer trolley rentals and tours.

I know this is troubling news for many as the Beach Trolley has been an integral part of the York Beach community since I started the service in 2004. I’m well aware that folks have come to rely on this service, and I don’t take this lightly. I tried to get the Shoreline Explorer folks to take over the service, but they don’t have the resources at this time. I’d be delighted for them, or anyone else, to continue the Beach Trolley service in the future.

York Trolley Company is small private business, we are not taxpayer funded. We have 2 trolleys and 4 drivers including myself. In addition to driving, I handle everything else. There is no other staff. The Beach Trolley service takes a huge amount of time and effort to run, it’s not as simple as it may seem. I’m not getting any younger and it’s time for me to slow down. Like many of you, I want to spend more time with my family and friends. Covid amplified those feelings. I love the trolleys, York and the joy folks get from the Beach Trolley, but it is no longer sustainable for me personally.

I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to my crew, you are the best and I appreciate all your flexibility and understanding as we navigated through the pandemic over the past 2 years. I’d also like to thank the Beach Trolley sponsors, without them there would be no Beach Trolley. I’ve listed them below. Lastly, I’d like to thank the countless number of folks that enjoyed the ride with us over the 16 years of service. It was a pleasure to share the Beach Trolley experience with you.
